Spain Books: MADRID (EYEWITNESS TRAVEL GUIDES)
ISBN= 0789495678
Spain Books N° 1: The DK Eyewitness Travel guides are very similar in content to the Knopf's guide in that they both appeal to travellers who are more interested in the history and culture of a destination than what the hippest nightclub or restaurant is. They are both excellent. However, do not buy these two books expecting to get much practical travel information. They devote very limited space to how to get around town, where to eat, how to get VAT reimbursement, etc. Unfortunately, Knopf's does not currently cover Madrid and Barcelona in the Spain Books series so I will have to settle for DK.
BARCELONA ART NOUVEAU
ISBN: 0847822206
Spain Books N° 2: London is famous for Big Ben; Paris for the Eiffel Tower; Rome for the Colosseum. Barcelona, on the other hand, is not identified by one or two famous buildings as these other European cities, but rather by an entire movement of turn-of-the-century architecture known simply as Modernisme. Familiar to Americans as art nouveau, its most famous practitioner was the artist and architect Antoni Gaudi. But the city is filled with superb examples of art nouveau in vivid colour in Barcelona Art Nouveau.
This Spain book offers a tour of 46 houses, public buildings, and monuments in the art-nouveau style, including brand-new photographs of the work of Gaudi. Visit the famous literary cafe Els Quarte Gats, which was once patronized by Pablo Picasso, who also designed the menu. Lose yourself in the whimsical curves of Casa Josep Batllo, a wonderful example of the combination of artisan tradition and richness that exemplifies art nouveau.
These structures, fully restored to pristine condition for the 1992 Olympics, have been rediscovered by both foreigners and Barcelonans alike, and are captured inside and out in this fascinating record of the adventurous, undulating designs of an exciting era.

SPAIN (EYEWITNESS TRAVEL GUIDES)
ISBN: 0789493888
Spain Books N° 5: Eyewitness Travel Guides are the original illustrated travel guidebooks-and they're still the best. Since 1993, the Eyewitness brand has established itself as one of the industry leaders, with sales of more than 6.5 million copies in the U.S. alone.
Featuring more than 70 worldwide destinations, new titles are being added to the best-selling Eyewitness Travel Guides series each year. In 2003, to mark the 10th anniversary of the publication of Eyewitness Travel Guides, DK is re-launching the entire series, fully updated, and with a brand-new look.
LONELY PLANET SPAIN
ISBN: 1740593375
Spain Books N° 6: From Antarctica to Zimbabwe, if you're going there, chances are Lonely Planet has been there first. With a pithy and matter-of-fact writing style, these guides are guaranteed to calm the nerves of first-time world travelers, while still listing off-the-beaten-path finds sure to thrill even the most jaded globetrotters.
Lonely Planet has been perfecting its guidebooks for nearly 30 years and as a result, has the experience and know-how similar to an older sibling's "been there" advice. The original backpacker's bible, the LP series has recently widened its reach. While still giving insights for the low-budget traveler, the books now list a wide range of accommodations and itineraries for those with less time than money.
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VILLAGES OF SPAIN
ISBN: 0500511284
Spain Books N° 7: The best-selling Most Beautiful Villages series now takes colourful, romantic, vibrant Spain as its subject. Traditional architecture and dramatic natural settings place these villages among the most unspoiled and appealing in Europe. Pretty Romanesque churches dominate mountain communities in the Asturias and the Pyrenees; walled hamlets rise from the high plains of Castilla; literary and artistic associations enrich the beautiful remains of Moorish Andalucía.
More than thirty village gems are featured here. From Galicia to the Basque country in the north lie picturesque fishing villages. Patient exploration in the heart of the country reveals such delights as Pedraza's arcaded square seen against a backdrop of snow capped mountains, or La Guardia's mighty defensive walls towering above the vineyards of Rioja. In the east, the whitewashed houses of coastal Cadaqués have become famous as an artists' colony, while El Palmar is renowned for its paella. And in the villages of Andalucía, like Medina Sidonia, the traces of Moorish civilization can be found.
The Most Beautiful Villages of Spain is completed by special sections on local culinary delights, as well as listings of places to stay and eat and sights to visit. 266 color illustrations.
There are other Spain Books, of course, but many are out of date or simply not that good. I'll update this page as strong new ones are published, so please do visit often.
